Shifting Spaces is one example of Chapman's evening-length presentations. The first phase of this series premiered on March 28, 2013 at Wade Wilson Art in Houston, Texas. The success of this event led to a request for an encore performance on April 13, 2013. These showings were free to the public. Cobley’s paintings were the inspiration for the choreography and costume design for the first phase of Shifting Spaces, was a 20-minute dance titled Sequences.
The second in the series of Shifting Spaces was a performance consisting of three separate dances presented at The Barn Theater in Houston, Texas on October 18 and 19, 2013. Lucinda Cobley painted four (8’ x 4’) panels that were hung from two movable frames. These moving panels were an integral part of the first dance of the evening, titled Exquisite Corpse. The costumes designed for the second dance titled Inflated Duet mirrored the designs of the panels in Exquisite Corpse. Costume designs for the third dance titled Sequences reflected the selection of paintings by Lucinda Cobley titled Sequence. The Houston Arts Alliance Individual Artist Grant Award, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts Innovation Grant, and private donors were all funding sources for the development of Shifting Spaces
